Sierra de Tolono 2020

The 2020 Sierra de Toloño red wine, which is an entry-level wine, was produced using Tempranillo grapes from Rivas de Tereso. The wine is fresh and energetic and represents the high-altitude vineyards produced in a simple way. It has an alcohol content of 13.5% and a medium body with a good level of freshness. The wine has clean berry flavors, vibrant acidity, and fine tannins. The wine was produced in a large quantity, with 35,000 bottles produced, making it the largest production by far. It was bottled in July 2021 after being aged for eight months in neutral barrels.

Sierra de Toloño was founded by Sandra Bravo in 2012. She produces wine using grapes from vineyards located in Rivas de Tereso, a small hamlet situated at the foothills of the Toloño mountain range. The vineyards are located at an altitude of over 600 meters, which is at the limit of vine cultivation, but this altitude provides excellent freshness to the wine produced. Sandra can only recover a small quantity of wine from old vineyards, but the quality is exceptionally high. In recognition of her work, Tim Atkin MW named her a "Young Winemaker of 2019" and her wine rose to The First Growth group in Rioja in 2023 which is the same level as wineries like 'La Rijoa Alta'.
