Bodegas Alvear, Oloroso Asunción, just with a hint of sweetness RP90+, 375ml

Bodegas Alvear, Oloroso Asunción, just with a hint of sweetness RP90+, 375ml

Alvear Oloroso Asunción is Alvear's most distinguished and refined Oloroso wine. 100% Pedro Ximénez garpes. Long ageing in the solera cask. Aromas of caramel and apricot get this oloroso off to a fine start. A richly intense palate with bold acidity offers plenty of depth while toasty flavour.

Description
The NV Oloroso Asunción is a wine made from Pedro Ximénez grapes, which are used in all Montilla wines. As the grapes ripen, they achieve higher levels of natural alcohol compared to Palomino grapes. Consequently, less fortification is required to reach the desired alcohol content of 19% before bottling. The wine has been aged in a solera system for over 25 years, according to the documentation I received. However, this wine used to be bottled when it was only 12 years old. It has a slightly sweet taste, with around 15 grams of sugar. It is mellow and approachable with a medium-aged aroma and gentle palate. The sugar is not too noticeable, and it balances the faint bitterness in the finish. The wine has a burnished orange that meets the tawny colour, with lively aromas of caramel and apricot that give it a good start. It has a richly intense palate, bold acidity, plenty of depth, and toasty flavours of coffee and walnuts. The wine finishes with notes of chocolate and café latte. Overall, this stylish wine is a cut above the rest.

Alvear was founded in 1729 and remains under the control of the same family. They own 307 acres of vineyards in the Montilla-Moriles appellation. Anyone who visits the area recognizes the incredible white soils, which are dominated by chalk/limestone and the key to the great acids these products possess.
