I tasted this wine from a wine merchant in Hong Kong who meet them by chance. They introduced me to this winery, actually is also a group that also owns the winery in Penedés, and Priorat, together with this Dominio Romano. The winery works in organic and biodynamic practices. When I learned more about their winemaking philosophy together with tasting the wine, I know they are producing outstanding wine!
Dominio Romano was made with 100% Tinto Fino, a Tempranillo but adapted to the soil and climate in Ribera del Duero. 80% of the wine age for 12 months in second and third-year barrels of 400 liters of French oak, 20% for 9 months in 400-liter clay amphorae. That gives the complicity to the final wine.
I found it very approachable, even just uncorking, no extra vanilla or strong oak aroma on the nose but the intense black fruit. I have tasted a lot of wine from this region are very oaky. I found it very balanced with ripening fruit, good acidity, and smooth tannins on the palate. Not heavy but easy to drink full-body wine!
