Viura is an important grapes variety in Rioja. It’s also called Maceabeo in other regions. The young viura wine is fresh, and floral with good acidity. It is used to blend with Tempranillo for making red wine in Rioja. More and more winemaker understands the potential of viura especially from the old vine to make a good quality white wine. Finca la Emperatriz Viura 2013 is a good example among those.
This is an aromatic wine. The nose shows intensity of stone fruit, white flower, and lemon peel with a hint of mineral. The aromas translate well into the palate together with a pleasant acidity to make a balanced wine. The finish is very long and memorable.
This wine match very well with baked shellfish, raw oyster, or pan-fried white fish.
