Milsetentayseis Tinto 2018, wine from high altitude and 100 years vineyard

Milsetentayseis Tino is a wine from a high altitude (1076 meters as printed on the cap) vineyard aged nearly 100 years in Ribera del Duero. Poor soil but rich in minerals and high altitude give the wine bold and fresh characters and intense fruit both in aroma and the month.

Description
This is a description of a red Tinto wine produced in the year 2018. The wine is made using Tempranillo grapes and is the first vintage of its kind. It has a rich and powerful taste with marked tannins and pungent flavors that combine black fruit and plenty of spice and toasted notes. The wine is produced using grapes from Fuentenebro, which is a high-altitude place known for its mines and rich mineral content. The fermentation process uses indigenous yeasts and the wine is matured for 18 months in 225- and 500-liter French oak barrels. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, ripe, and generously oaked Tempranillo from Ribera. The producer has bottled 16,000 bottles of this wine, which was bottled in June 2020.

Milsetentayseis, which refers to the altitude of 1,076 meters of their highest vineyard, is a new wine project located in Fuentenebro (Burgos) within the Ribera del Duero region. The Ruiz Aragoneses family, known for their Pago de Carraovejas wine, started this new venture in 2018. They have 12 hectares of young vines (12 to 30 years old) and 10 hectares of old vines (70 to 110 years of age) spread over 48 small plots, all located in the village of Fuentenebro. The vineyards are now certified organic.  Initially, their production was quite small, with only 27,000 bottles in 2019. However, they are slowly expanding as they continue their pursuit of excellence. They plan to introduce a few more wines, including a red blend with different varieties they have discovered in the old vineyards.
