The 2019 NAHIKUN Tempranillo is a red wine made with mostly Tempranillo grapes from five old plots that also produced the NAHIKUN Blanco. This balsamic wine features a mix of wild berries, herbs, and flowers with notes of sweet spices and an earthy touch. The palate is vibrant, and the wine is much more harmonious and fresh than previous vintages. The oak is also much better integrated. It has a purity and power of 14% alcohol with good freshness, fine, chalky tannins, and a long, almost salty finish. This wine was matured in 225-liter barrels for one year. Only 676 bottles were filled in November 2020.
Sierra de Toloño was founded by Sandra Bravo in 2012. She produces wine using grapes from vineyards located in Rivas de Tereso, a small hamlet situated at the foothills of the Toloño mountain range. The vineyards are located at an altitude of over 600 meters, which is at the limit of vine cultivation, but this altitude provides excellent freshness to the wine produced. Sandra can only recover a small quantity of wine from old vineyards, but the quality is exceptionally high. In recognition of her work, Tim Atkin MW named her a "Young Winemaker of 2019" and her wine rose to The First Growth group in Rioja in 2023 which is the same level as wineries like 'La Rijoa Alta'.
