Description

VINEYARDS

The single vineyard of Tempranillo is from a high, rocky, limestone-based site (700 meters altitude).

Due to the higher Lastra (grey limestone rock), closer to the roots, and the quality of the tempranillo, which is extremely tasty, the wine is especially aromatic and mineral.

BLEND

100% Tempranillo

WINEMAKING AND AGING

It ferments spontaneously in amphorae at a very low temperature. This is a slow process that allows a smooth and continuous extraction. Then, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for a year to complete the roundness of the tannins.  Unfined and unfiltered. 1.120 bottles produced

TASTING NOTE

It’s a serious, sappy red with violet and wild thyme aromas, redcurrant and pomegranate fruit, and palate-cleansing acidity. Strong mineral accent and floral touch typical of the Mediterranean herbs that surrounded the vineyard.

Sierra de Toloño was founded by Sandra Bravo in 2012. She produces wine using grapes from vineyards located in Rivas de Tereso, a small hamlet situated at the foothills of the Toloño mountain range. The vineyards are located at an altitude of over 600 meters, which is at the limit of vine cultivation, but this altitude provides excellent freshness to the wine produced. Sandra can only recover a small quantity of wine from old vineyards, but the quality is exceptionally high. In recognition of her work, Tim Atkin MW named her a "Young Winemaker of 2019" and her wine rose to The First Growth group in Rioja in 2023 which is the same level as wineries like 'La Rijoa Alta'.
