Description

I'm impressed with the new Garnacha from Rivas de Tereso 2019. Tereseño is made from grapes grown at an altitude of 700 meters in a plot planted in 1944. The wine is fermented and matured in amphora to maintain the purity of the grapes. It has a delightful floral and herbal aroma, juicy tannins and a great varietal expression. The wine has a high alcohol content of 14.5% but still maintains its freshness and poise thanks to its high acidity. The wine finishes with lively berry flavours that leave a lasting impression. It's a truly exceptional wine, with only 633 bottles produced in August 2020.

Sierra de Toloño was founded by Sandra Bravo in 2012. She produces wine using grapes from vineyards located in Rivas de Tereso, a small hamlet situated at the foothills of the Toloño mountain range. The vineyards are located at an altitude of over 600 meters, which is at the limit of vine cultivation, but this altitude provides excellent freshness to the wine produced. Sandra can only recover a small quantity of wine from old vineyards, but the quality is exceptionally high. In recognition of her work, Tim Atkin MW named her a "Young Winemaker of 2019" and her wine rose to The First Growth group in Rioja in 2023 which is the same level as wineries like 'La Rijoa Alta'.
