Grape Variety: 100% Grenache
Many wine producers in Spain regards Grenache in Spain as a Pinot Noir in Burgandy. It is because they are both terrior driven, it means the soil, climate, viticulture will easily influence the wine.
Venus de la Figuera is the grenache of Sara Pérez and René Barbier. Harvest from an old vineyard in the village of La Figuera, one single plot of 1.2-hectares on white and red clay soils. The wine ferment in open deposits of 500L with a subsequent upbringing of 18 months in foudre of 2500L. It has a ripe nose of plums and dark cherries. The aroma reminds me of Chateau Rayas from the Rhone region in France, the wine use almost 100% grenache as well.
As Luis Gutiérrez from Wine Advocate mentioned about vintage 2016: "The phenomenal 2016 Venus de La Figuera has the sharpness of the limestone soils and the acidity of the year... This is tight and austere, more serious than the previous two years... I found crunchy Garnacha with citrus freshness. Amazing Garnacha from La Figuera."
